Position Description
2nd Shift The CNC Lathe-Shaft Machinist and NC 4 Axis Chucker machines a wide variety of shafts and other parts of various metals on CNC lathes, following standard procedures and under minimal supervision.
Accountabilities Primary duties include:
Review paperwork, including blueprints, route sheets and indented bills of material and ensure that supplies, tools and materials are as required. Review program for correctness.
Prepare shaft for machining. Set up shaft on lathe and machine in compliance with job requirements. Use proper tooling and fixturing to ensure straightness.
Load material using overhead cranes.
Program shaft machine at control when applicable.
Suggest program improvements to programmers.
Record actual dimensions on the blueprint and note any out-of-tolerance dimensions on a nonconforming report.
Identify shaft by stamping coupling end before forwarding to next operation.
Calibrate measuring instruments. Maintain all tooling holders and tools in proper working condition.
Ensure tooling is in proper working condition and repair as needed. Calibrate measuring equipment and maintain records.
Other duties include:
Participate in problem solving and other work improvement groups.
When required, operate conventional lathe or miller.
Assist other employees to solve problems; train vocational students when required.
Prepare and maintain records of work performed or other data and reports as required. Maintain established quality and production standards. Detect and report improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual condition to supervisor. Ensure work area and equipment are maintained in a clean, safe and orderly condition, that prescribed safety measures are followed, that established company policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to.

Position Requirements
Qualifications:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Possess the ability to work well with others and have good organization skills, and be a team player.
Will need to work occasional overtime as required
HS Diploma or GED
2 years of machining experience
Able to use measurement instruments
